Ever felt completely stuck? Not because you ran out of options, but because fear got its grip on you? Fear isn’t always a loud scream. Sometimes, it’s a quiet whisper that tells you you’re not enough, you’ll fail, or that you shouldn’t even bother trying.
Here’s the thing, though: fear might show up, but it doesn’t get to stay.
This week, we’re moving from a place of fear to a place of flow. We’re going to ground ourselves in God’s promises, push past those paralyzing thoughts, and step into our purpose—even if we’re shaking a little.
Let’s talk about how we can stop just going through fear and start growing through it with faith, a game plan, and spiritual strength.
What Does the Bible Say About Fear?
Fear is mentioned a lot in the Bible. God never pretends we won’t face it, but he always gives us what we need to respond with truth, not with anxiety.
Here are a few verses to help you ground your heart:
- 2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV): “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
- Psalm 56:3 (ESV): “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”
- Isaiah 41:10 (ESV): “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
- 1 John 4:18a (ESV): “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.”
Fear might be present, but it’s not meant to be permanent. God’s word reminds us that his power, presence, and love are bigger than anything we’re afraid of. Fear isn’t from God, but trust, power, and love are.
The Different Faces of Fear
Fear doesn’t always look like panic or terror. Sometimes, it looks like:
- Procrastination (fear of failure)
- Perfectionism (fear of criticism)
- Control (fear of uncertainty)
- Comparison (fear of not being good enough)
- Silence (fear of rejection)
Figuring out what fear looks like in your own life is the first step to beating it.
How to Move Past Fear
1. Name It to Tame It
Fear thrives in the dark. When you identify what you’re really afraid of, you can call out the lie and replace it with God’s truth.
For example:
- Fear: “I’m afraid I’ll fail.”
- Truth: Philippians 1:6 (ESV) – “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.”
2. Pray Through the Panic
When fear hits, don’t just sit with it. Talk to God about it with a specific and strong prayer. He’s not intimidated by your honest feelings.
Try this: “Lord, I feel anxious about ___. But I know you are with me, and I choose to trust your plan over my panic.”
3. Practice Courage Daily
Courage isn’t about not being afraid; it’s about taking action despite the fear. You can build your spiritual muscles by doing the hard thing even when it feels scary.
Remember Joshua 1:9 (ESV): “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid.”
4. Use the Bible as Your Weapon
Fear is a mental battle. Use scripture to break down those mental strongholds. Keep your go-to verses in places you’ll see them, like on your mirror, desk, or phone.
5. Anchor Yourself in God’s Love
God’s love comforts you and drives out fear. When you truly know how deeply you are loved, fear loses its hold.
Let’s Grow Through It: A Few Questions to Ask Yourself
1. What fear has been the loudest in my life lately, and what truth can I use to replace it?
2. Where is God asking me to take a bold step—even if I feel afraid?
You don’t have to “feel brave” to be bold. Fear might knock on the door, but faith gets to answer. The enemy wants fear to be a lid on your life, but God wants it to be your launching pad.
Make this the week you stop just dealing with fear and start mastering it with faith.
