The seed shivered in the cold earth.
“Why did you bury me here?” it asked softly. “It’s dark, it’s lonely, and I can’t see the light anymore.”
The soil held it close.
“You’re not buried,” the soil whispered. “You’re planted.”
The seed protested, “But it feels the same! I’m trapped, pressed down, forgotten.”
The soil replied, “Burial ends life. Planting begins it. In this hidden place, your roots will stretch deep, your stem will grow strong, and soon you will break through into the light.”
The seed grew quiet, then asked, “But why must I shrink first, why must I break apart?”
The soil answered gently, “Because in surrender, you discover what’s truly inside of you. Your shell must give way for your purpose to be revealed.”
The seed trembled, yet hoped. “So this isn’t the end?”
“No,” said the soil with a smile. “It’s the beginning. What feels like loss is only preparation. One day soon, you’ll rise not as a seed, but as life itself.”
And so, in the silence of the soil, the seed waited—trusting that the hidden place was holy ground.
The Lesson:
When life feels heavy, dark, or hidden, remember: you may not be buried, you may be planted. God uses hidden seasons to prepare you for fruit-bearing seasons.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” — John 12:24 (ESV)
